Root down is a Yoga studio dedicated to creating a welcoming space for all people to practice yoga. It is our intention to help expand the yoga community of the Gorge bringing yoga to those familiar with it as well as to those whom have maybe felt it wasn’t a good fit for them in the past or whom haven’t yet had a chance to experience it. We are inspired by the Baptiste Methodology as it is one that we have found truly works, it brings out the best in people both on and off the mat. The practice is challenging and athletic yet can be tailored to fit everyone’s needs. We embody our values of quality, authenticity, integrity and community and are here for the service of our students. We take the practice seriously and take ourselves lightly.
Our Story- Root Down Yoga was created by Charles and Mary Beckert in the hopes to pay forward all the goodness they have received from their yoga experiences. Charles left a career as an Air traffic controller a while back in pursuit of a lifestyle change, which brought him to Bend, Oregon where he met Mary. Mary was working as a Contracts Manager for a luxury real estate brokerage and was ready for a change of direction as well after a number of co-workers fell ill due to the stress of the industry. Both were pursuing their RYT’s when they met Suzie Harris of Namaspa in Bend and were invited to her teacher training for the Baptiste practice. After training with Suzie they then attended the Baptiste Level 1 training with Baron Baptiste in upstate New York and fell in love with the practice. Shortly after that they fell in love with each other and got married! Charles and Mary had been visiting Hood River for a number of years and decided that they wanted to make it their home. Inspired by the vibrant yoga community that they left in Bend, they decided to open a studio dedicated to Power Yoga and Yin Yoga in Hood River. They wanted to create a place where they could spread the joy they have for the practice with their community and help folks lead the best lives possible. They feel truly blessed to be able to bring both styles to the area.
